With the Starwood Preferred Guest Card, you can earn free nights & points at almost 900 participating resorts and hotels in almost 100 countries. The Starwood portfolio of branded hotels includes Westin, St. Regis, W Hotels, Le Meridien, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, aloft and more. There are no blackout dates for using your points, and you can redeem for a free night with as few as 2000 points.
Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) members can also transfer their points to over 30 major airlines, usually on a 1 to 1 basis, plus receive a bonus of 5,000 starpoints when 20,000 miles are transfered to the respective airline. Thus the 20,000 miles plus the 5,000 bonus are enough to get a free ticket on most airlines - which offer tickets to a wide range of locations at teh 25,000 point level.
Ways of earning Starpoints
- With your 1st purchase, you can earn a 10,000 point bonus. This is sufficient for up to three (3) complimentary nights at a Category 1 or 2 hotel, and is enough fore free nights at up to a Category 4 hotel. If you use their Cash and Points feature, it could provide up to 80% discounts on Hotels in the Category 5 and Category 6 as well.
- SPG members will earn one (1) point for each $1.00 charged to their card for eligible spending
- SPG members earn double points on paid nights and purchases made at most Starwood retail outlets (usually within the Starwood Hotel Property). This includes restaurants, spas, retail shops, and more. If you put these charges on your hotel bill, the program allows you to "double dip" - you can receive points both on your hotel stay and on your credit card charge.

About the Card
The card does have a $45 annual fee, but is FREE FOR THE FIRST YEAR. The card usually offeres promotions for introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers - you will be notified of the available promotions when you complete the application for the Starwood Preferred Guest Card.
The Starwood Preferred Guest card offers dedicated customer service around the clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This is the same level of customer service that American Express is famous for - for immediate assitance, just call the number on the back of your card.
The Card is managed through the American Express online interface, which provides tools to organize your expenses, review charges, and summaries of expenditures by category which is helpful for tax and budgeting purposes. The website allows you to view real-time up to date information, including billing, transactions, returns, charges and payments.

- Buyer's Assurance Plan - extends the warranty on all purchased goods by up to 1 year on eligible goods that are purchased with warranties of 5 years or less

About the Starwood Preferred Guest Program
Founded in 1999, the Starwood Preferred Guest program has consistently been recognized as the best rewards program in the industry. You will earn 2 Starpoints for every dollar charged at over 900 participating properties. There are no blackouts, and your points never expire as long as you have activity at least once every 12 months.
